Why Every Full Bath Should Include a Handshower Setup
Share
As a designer, I always recommend that every full bathroom include a handshower setup.
While each person may have different preferences when it comes to water pressure, spray pattern, showerhead height, and temperature, the practicality of a handshower enhances the overall functionality of the space for anyone who uses it.
While most people associate handshowers with universal design or hydrotherapy benefits, there's another less obvious advantage: ease of cleaning. Whether you clean your shower yourself or have a cleaning service, a handshower makes it much easier to rinse hard-to-reach areas and crevices where soap scum tends to build up.
If you're planning a renovation, it's an ideal time to incorporate a handshower because it requires making adjustments to the plumbing behind the wall.
When selecting a handshower, be sure to include all the necessary components: the rough-in valve, handshower, hose, escutcheon, elbow, vacuum breaker, and slide bar or hook. Some manufacturers offer these parts in a complete package, while others may require them to be specified individually.
