What to Expect When Working with a Kitchen + Bath Designer

Thinking about remodeling your kitchen or bathroom but not sure where to start? You’re not alone. These are two of the most complex spaces in a home—and the most rewarding to renovate when done right. That’s where a Certified Kitchen and Bath Designer (CKBD) comes in.

If you’ve never worked with a designer before, here’s a look at what you can expect throughout the process—from the very first meeting to the final handoff.

Discovery Call

This is our first meeting. It is a quick intro into the design process and an introduction to the project you are looking to complete.

Homeowner Questionnaire

Before our first design meeting, we send you a detailed Homeowner Questionnaire to better understand your project goals, preferences, and priorities. This is your chance to share everything—from what you love to what you’d prefer to steer away from. We’ll review your responses, along with any inspiration boards or images, to start shaping the look and feel of your ideal space.

Design Consultation

This is where we dive deep into your questionnaire responses and find a design direction that fits the vision for your space.

Site Measurements

We work with our partnered contractor to create a full Scope of Work and ensure floor plans are feasible and buildable. Have your own contractor? We will focus on the selection of your materials and fixtures.

Design Development

We start shaping your project with floor plans, cabinet layouts, and curated material selections. We will walk you through options for:

  • Cabinetry styles, finishes, and configurations
  • Countertops and Tile
  • Plumbing Fixtures
  • Lighting
  • Hardware (cabinet hardware and door hardware)
  • Custom Storage Solutions
  • Paint

You will receive visual aids such as renderings, sample boards, and product inspiration to help you feel confident in every choice.

Handoff Packet

In this final step, your designer will complete all of the necessary documentation including selected product list and annotated drawings. This is the information that allows your contractor to build your project.

Post Design Support

Although our handoff packets are comprehensive, we are here to answer questions that may arise during the build portion of your project.

Hiring a kitchen and bath designer is about more than choosing pretty finishes—it’s about creating a space that is tailored to your life, avoids costly mistakes, and allows you to live in a space you love.
