The Importance of a Home Maintenance Binder
Share
Also known as a Care and Use Manual, a Home Maintenance Binder is an important staple to your home renovation or even a move to a new home. Installation manuals and user guides are key to troubleshooting any issues that may arise over the years.
Start by collecting all relevant installation information and user manuals from existing and newly installed fixtures and equipment including (but not limited to):
- Appliances
- Plumbing Fixtures
- Light Fixtures
- Flooring
- Doors and Windows
- Hardware (cabinet or door)
- Paint Colors (including type and sheen)
It is also important to keep a record of any maintenance you've completed, as this can be useful for labor warranties or scheduling future maintenance appointments for things like:
- Smoke Detector Replacement
- Driveway Resurfacing
- Gutter Cleaning
- Air Duct Cleaning
- Dryer Vent Cleaning
- HVAC tune-ups
- Upgrades to electrical wiring or breaker boxes
- Garage door cleaning and lubrication
Get started! Depending on the size of your home, grab a 3"-4" binder and some dividers to organize your documentation into sections, which could look something like this:
- Plumbing
- Electrical
- Walls / Paint
- Flooring
- Appliances
- Exterior
